The Use Of Rubber Isolators

by | Feb 12, 2018 | Industrial-Mechanical

There are many different reasons to want to dampen and reduce vibration in equipment, systems and in components. Vibrations from equipment movement, engines, processing systems and other types of issues will result in wear and tear on parts and components. It will also create excessive noise on or around equipment, which means that isolating vibration and reducing both movement and noise is critical.

There are several different vibration damping options to consider, each offering different features and benefits for various applications. Most of these systems are made from either rubber or neoprene, with rubber isolators often a top choice in a wide variety of industries.

Options to Consider

With the vast number of uses for rubber isolators, companies specializing in these types of passive vibration reduction systems make a range of different styles and options.

These isolators, which can include rubber bonded to metal for durable, long-lasting ways to attach the isolator to the equipment, are carefully designed to be able to withstand both compression as well as shear force.

Common options in isolators for various applications include:

  • Vibration reduction – these are specific shapes of isolators that may be round or rectangular and are used in equipment, often agricultural and heavy machinery but also passenger types of vehicles. They are designed to minimize vibration from traveling throughout the frame or components of the vehicle. These can also be conical in shape and may be called rubber cone mounts.
  • Electric shock – the use of rubber isolators is also ideal for eliminating the transmission of electric shock throughout equipment or systems. This is important in many different systems and equipment. These types of isolators may also be used in sensitive electronics and systems, including HVAC systems and in the manufacturing industry.
  • Different sizes, load type and capacity types of isolators are available. Companies may also offer customized manufacturing for Original Equipment Manufacturers when standard isolators are not a good match for the job.
