College Guide: How to Rent University of Florida Student Apartments

by | Sep 13, 2022 | Student Housing Center

Students contemplating moving off campus and into University of Florida student apartments often have questions about the rental process. Mostly, it’s a straightforward process, but here are some tips to get students pointed in the right direction.

Finding an Apartment

The first step is to find an apartment that’s safe, clean, and affordable. Fortunately, many student apartments near the university meet these criteria. Start the search by scheduling visits to tour the properties.

Choosing a Roommate

A roommate isn’t necessary since many apartments have one-bedroom, one-bath floorplans. Yet, many college students enjoy having roommates. If a student already has roommates lined up, great! If not, it’s not a problem. Student apartment complexes can match students using a lifestyle questionnaire.

Paying for the Apartment

Most students pay for off-campus apartments using their financial aid or private pay. Students must have a financial guarantor if they’re not using financial aid. A financial guarantor can be a parent or a third-party service the property management company uses. If a guarantor isn’t available, the student might be required to put down a two-month deposit that goes toward the 11th and 12th rent payments.

Applying for the Apartment

As soon as students know they want to move off campus, they must get their application in as soon as possible. Apartments go quickly, and the early bird catches the worm.
