Tips For Replacing A Stud Welder Gun

Stud welder systems, like most other types of equipment, is designed to have a long life cycle, providing a good return on the investment for buyers. However, just like any other type of equipment, the quality, craftsmanship and the materials used in all components of the system have an impact on how long it will last.

The stud welder gun, in addition to the power source and the cables, makes up the stud weld system. Unlike the cables and the power source, the hand held tool tends to take the most beating on the job, often being dropped, hit or even exposed to rain or humidity in outdoor working conditions.

Over time, this wear and tear on the gun, no matter how carefully it is used and maintained, means it needs to be replaced. When choosing a replacement stud welder gun, there are several different factors to keep in mind.

Compatibility

When replacing just the hand held tool, make sure it is fully compatible with the cables as well as the power source you currently have in place. While most are fully compatible, there may be some systems that are not designed to accommodate for other brands and option of guns.

Always make sure you are purchasing the right type of gun for the system. A CD stud welder needs a CD stud gun, and the drawn arc system also has to operate with a drawn arc hand held tool. In some cases, the drawn arc stud welder gun may be standard or heavy duty; both should work on the system.

Ergonomics

For high use types of applications, or for continuous use in heavy-duty or standard types of processes, look for a hand held tool that is ergonomically designed. These guns are designed to fit to the hand, reducing stress, pressure and helping to reduce muscle fatigue when operating the hand held tool.
